The Latino Digital Archive Group held its first Latino Digital Heritage fair at the Cesar Chavez Library in Salinas, California. Community organizations and members were invited to participate in “Preserving Local Latino History” on September 6th & 7th 2013.
This heritage fair discussed how photographs help tell the story of local Latino history. A review of best practices for preserving and accessing photographs was provided followed by an opportunity for participants to digitize a selection of their photographs and showcase them. Participants had the option of giving permission for the images to be added the Salinas Local History Digital Archive http://salinaspubliclibrary.org/local-history/. This was the first of many fairs to come as we moved towards establishing a National Latino Digital Archive.
